Rain comes to iRacing…

Sim racers rejoice, it’s finally here! After what feels like a decade of false starts, iRacing’s ‘Tempest’ wet weather system went live last week.

Featuring programmable or entirely dynamic weather, players can also choose to set conditions to mimic real-world conditions in real-time, which will certainly make driving at Knockhill even more challenging…

Tempest’s reception has been largely positive, with many seeing it as the most realistic depiction of wet weather in sim racing yet.

Like most of iRacing’s new systems - including the New Damage Model (NDM) and AI racing - Tempest is only available on a select few cars and tracks to begin with.

For the moment, players can only enjoy Tempest with cars like the Toyota GR86, Ray FF1600, Super Formula Lights, FIA F4 and the Dallara P217 LMP2, with the GTP/LMDh and GT3 classes also included.

It’s a good mix of entry-level and popular vehicles, but no doubt players are desperate to see what it's like to drive a Formula 1 car in the rain… on a dirt oval…
